Reshuffle at Competition Authority

There have been a number of management changes at the Competition Authority as a result of the appointment of one of its members, Isolde Goggin, as a commissioner in the newly formed Commission for Communication Regulation.

Ms Goggin will leave her post as director of the authority's regulated markets division at the end of this month, to be replaced by Declan Purcell, who currently directs the competition policy division.

Terry Calvani, currently director of the cartels division, will cover the competition policy section from January 1 2003 pending the appointment of a new member. The competition policy area will be renamed the mergers division, while the regulated markets division will be known as the advocacy division.

The post of new member to replace Ms Goggin is to be advertised shortly. The new member will initially direct the authority's mergers work.
