Live Register down, but redundancies grow

The number of people on the Live Register fell by 3,726 in October to 157,706, according to the Central Statistics Office.

The seasonally adjusted figures also fell slightly last month, down 100 to 162,800. The CSO said the fall reflected decreases in all regions, with the largest drops in the Border (3.7%) and Dublin (3.1%).

In the year to October, the number on the Live Register rose by 11.2%, compared with a 14.9% increase in the year to September. The standardised unemployment rate was unchanged from September at 4.3%.

Also today, figures released by the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment show that there were 1,783 redundancies notified to the Department in October. The cumulative number of redundancies in the year to October now stands at 21,024, over a third higher than in the same period last year.
