Drugs working for Pfizer in Q3

The world's biggest drug maker, Pfizer, has reported a 12% rise in third quarter profits to $2.45 billion.

The US company's revenues also grew by 12% to $8.7 billion, boosted by strong sales of heart-related medicines such as cholesterol drug Lipitor and blood pressure treatment Norvasc.

Pfizer also said that its erectile dysfunction drug Viagra achieved its highest monthly total prescription level in August, with 1.38 million prescriptions.

Pfizer employs about 1,000 people in Ireland, and last month the IDA confirmed that it was in discussions with the company about expanding its operations here.
