UK charter company MyTravel is setting up a low cost airline, based at Birmingham airport, which will be called MyTravelLite.
The move indicates the rapid expansion of the low fare sector which is currently dominated by Easyjet and Ryanair.
MyTravelLite's managing director is Tim Jeans, the former sales and marketing director of Ryanair.
The group will start to operate from October 1 with flights from Birmingham to Alicante, Malaga, Geneva, Paris and Belfast.
Earlier today Easyjet announced a rapid rise in passenger numbers, and yesterday Ryanair announced first quarter profits up 68% on last year.
