Competition body appoints more staff

The Competition Authority has announced the appointment of a number of new staff.

Dr Martin Moloney and Ray Leonard have been appointed divisional managers, while Noreen Mackey has taken up the post of legal advisor.

Detective sergeants Michael Prendergast and Anthony Mulligan joined the authority on secondment from an Garda Siochana at the end of March. They will assist with the investigation of cartels and the enforcement of competition law.

The authority says five further case officers will be appointed between the end of April and the middle of June.

After a review of staffing at the authority in 2000, its staff allocation was increased to 44. These ten appointments will bring the number to 34.
