A report into the motor insurance business has not been completed, according to its chairwoman Dorothea Dowling, despite newspaper reports.
The Government appointed Motor Insurance Advisory Board has spent the last three years examining the motor insurance market and expects its work to be completed 'in the next few weeks'.
This morning's Irish Independent writes that the report recommends Government imposed price control on motor insurance if premiums continue to escalate. The newspapers says the report criticises the legal profession for a number of practices which increase the costs of claims.
It is also says the report notes that young male drivers (17-19) produce substantial losses for insurers, whilst charges for young female drivers are not justified by their claims costs.
