The Taoiseach has assured the Dail that despite the reported $750m fraud in AIB, there is no danger to account holders' funds or to the shareholders.
In reply to questions in the House, he said the bank had said it would still have a profit of about €400m and that its capital base was still strong.
He said the bank had informed the Central Bank of the reported fraud in its US subsidiary yesterday and that the governor of the Central Bank had informed the Minister for Finance last night.
The Taoiseach said that as the investigation of the fraud was still underway, he could not give any assurances on whether $750m was the full extent of the fraud.
