Signs of improvement are dotted around a generally grim US economic landscape, according to the latest Federal Reserve Beige Book survey tonight.
'Reports from the Federal Reserve districts suggest that economic activity generally remained weak from late November through early January,' it said.
'But while there are still indications of caution, there are also scattered reports of improvement.'
The Beige Book survey summarises information collected by the 12 districts of the Federal Reserve System. It is released eight times a year.
