British aviation giant British Airways indicated on Friday that it was starting to get over the aviation crisis wrought by the events of September 11 when it signalled a marked improvement in traffic figures in December.
British Airways said that traffic numbers were still down on last year's equivalents, with the revenue passenger kilometre figure down 10.4% year-on-year. Yet in November it was down 17.8%, and in October the figure was almost 25%, hinting at an improving trend at the struggling British carrier.
'Market conditions in December continued to be difficult but showed a measurable improvement on the previous month,' BA said, adding that a massive discount ticket offer had helped fill aircraft again.
Airlines around the world were hammered by the deadly skyjackings of September 11, which put millions off flying and aggravated a global economic slowdown that had already started to squeeze the aviation sector.
