Going, going, gone - Go leaves Dublin

The low cost airline Go is to pull out of its routes from Dublin to Glasgow and Edinburgh from March of next year. The company has blamed a price war with Ryanair for its decision.

Go started its routes from Dublin in September. There will be no direct impact on jobs here as Go uses ground handling agents Servisair for its operations in Dublin.

The company, which is moving the aircraft used on the Dublin routes to its new base at East Midlands airport, has not ruled out opening routes from Ireland in the future.

Aer Rianta has said the Go decision should be investigated as a matter of urgency by the Government's Interdepartmental Group on tourism.

It accused Ryanair of launching services on the same routes as Go with the sole purpose of putting its competitor off the routes.

'Ryanair has no interest in Irish tourism. Its only interest is in creating additional wealth for its shareholders,' Aer Rianta chairman Noel Hanlon said.
