US medical devices manufacturer Boston Scientific is to expand its research and development facility at its international product development centre in Galway.
The facility is to develop the technology for the company's next generation of products, including its first drug coated cardiovascular stent to be used in the treatment of heart disease.
IDA Ireland is supporting the development, which Tanaiste Mary Harney said was in line with Government and IDA strategy of attracting more higher value and research-based activities to Ireland.
Boston Scientific employs 3,000 in Galway, Cork, Tullamore and Letterkenny.
