271 new jobs are to be created in 10 Irish engineering companies with investment of £37.5m from Enterprise Ireland. Another £1m has been provided to a further six companies for research and development.
Announcing the news, Tanaiste and Enterprise, Trade & Employment Minister Mary Harney welcomed the broad regional spread of the jobs. She said the mechanical engineering sector was extremely important, as 65% of all companies in the sector were outside Dublin.
The companies involved are:
- Exhaust systems manufacturer Mulmuf is to create 15 new jobs at its plant in Tubbercurry, Co Sligo.
- Wexford-based stainless steel machinery firm Kent Stainless is to increase employment by 25.
- Hydraulic cylinder maker Burnside Autocyl is to create 27 new jobs at Tullow, Co Carlow.
- 24 new jobs will be created at animal feed systems firm Richard Keenan & Co in Borris, Co Carlow.
- 40 new jobs at forklift truck maker Aisle-Master at Clontibret, Co Monaghan.
- 45 jobs at Cork Plastics, Little Island.
- 18 new jobs at Burnside Eurocyl, which also makes hydraulic cylinders, in Carlow.
- New Louth company Suretank, which makes specialised steel tanks, is to move to a new facility in Dunleer, employing a further 22 people.
- Waterford start-up company Sanritsu Mobilon will create 25 new jobs. It makes mobile work platforms.
- IT Image, a start-up based in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford which makes printer cartridges, will create 30 new jobs.
