Former AIB chief executive Tom Mulcahy was last night appointed the new chairman of Aer Lingus, following the death of Bernie Cahill last Friday week.
Mulcahy retired from heading up AIB in early summer, and faces an interesting challenge at the troubled state airline, following the controversial departure of its chief executive Michael Foley.
It is understood Mulcahy was selected from a shortlist of three candidates.
In a statement, Public Enterprise Minister Mary O'Rourke said Mr Mulcahy was taking over at a time of 'great challenge'.
She said the Government was honoured that an individual with his track record and business experience had agreed to accept the post.
