Lufthansa reports 43m euro first-half loss

The German airline Lufthansa posted a 2001 first-half net loss of 43m euros down from a gain of 460m euros in the same period one year earlier.

The group's operating profit plunged by 70% to 105m euros, it said in a statement.

Despite the poor results, Lufthansa maintained its full-year target of an operating profit between 700m and 750m euros, but only 'provided the underlying economic conditions pick up again in the fourth quarter of 2001,' the airline said.
