Dublin-listed exploration company Aminex says drilling for gas is under way at what it describes as one of its most promising prospects in the US, the Alta Loma field in Texas.
The field has already produced over 30 billion cubic feet of gas and the project is believed to have potential for a 50 to 100 billion cubic feet of recoverable reserves.
Three further wells are planned, depending on the results from this first well, which will cost $3.8m.
Aminex has a 37.5% interest in the prospect.
