Dublin Chamber of Commerce tells Gov of need for urgency

The Dublin Chamber of Commerce (DCC) has told the Government that immediate fast-tracking of the Greater Dublin Area Authority (GDAA) is crucial to its success.

The Chamber recommended a number of key action points including: the adoption of an overall strategic plan for the GDAA, bringing forward the implementation date of 2003, and establishing project management teams to drive initiatives like the Eastern By-pass and the Airport rail link.

Declan Martin, DCC's Director of Policy said the implementation date of 2003 needs to be brought forward and the Government needs to 'establish the foundations now while statutory legislation is pending'.

He said a shared vision is needed 'so that people from Navan to Tallaght are agreed on the plan and are happy with the overall strategy,' and it address 'key issues such as housing, transport and the overall shape of the city'.

The DCC has been campaigning for a Greater Dublin Area Authority and has given broad welcome to the Governments proposals and expects the Goverment to respond to today's submission before the autumn.
