Hibernian parent shows 12% profit hike

CGNU, parent company of Hibernian and the UK's biggest insurance group, has reported a 12% increase in first quarter profits to £445m sterling.

Almost a year after its merger with Norwich Union, the company said record sales in its home market had helped the company improve on last years profits of £393m.

CGNU says cost reductions from the merger are on track with £172m of annualised savings achieved to date.

CGNU shares have outperformed those of its European peers by about 10% this year.
