US slowdown & FMD hit BA's March traffic

British Airways, Europe's biggest airline, said today that the slowing US economy and the outbreak of foot and mouth disease in Britain had affected revenues and passenger numbers for March.

BA said overall traffic in March fell 8.9% from last year, including a 3% decline in premium traffic.

Load factor - a measure of how successful an airline is at filling the number of seats on offer - stood at 70%, down 1.8 points from March 2000.
