A new survey published today indicated that, given the right opportunity, 59% of Irish emigrants would return home.
The survey was conducted by Irish Emigrant Publications, the world's longest established e-zine publisher. Carried out by Wilton Research and Marketing, via the internet, users in over 120 countries, were asked whether they were prepared to return to Ireland to work.
A total of 3,893 completed the questionnaire and 59% said they hoped to return home.
The main obstacles preventing emigrants returning home were family ties, salaries, house prices and tax. Other reasons included the weather, lifestyle and infrastructure problems.
The highest proportion of responses came from people working in the IT sector, with 91% of the total having a third level qualification.
