42 Hazlewood jobs go in Greencore shake-up

Food group Greencore said today it was making a number of changes to the structure of recent acquisition, British company Hazlewood Foods, resulting in 42 staff redundancies.

The job losses would occur following the closure of Hazlewood's head office in Derby in central England at the end of the year, Greencore said.

Greencore, which bought Hazlewood for £258 million sterling late last year, also said it was splitting Hazlewood's grocery, chilled foods, prepared meals, and international operations into four separate units. Two non-core units had been sold for a total £6.3 million, it added.

Greencore's pizza and sauces unit Paramount Foods will be integrated into the new structure. Hazlewood has 11,000 employees, mostly in Britain but also in the Low Countries and Germany.

Commenting on the changes, Greencore's Chief Executive, David Dilger, said the restructuring of Hazlewood would assist the company's continuing drive of improved performance and also reduce the company's costs.
