November car sales down on 1999 figures

Last November witnessed a 5.1% decrease in the number of new cars licensed, compared with the same month in 1999. There were 6,933 new cars licensed in November 2000, compared with 7,034 in November 1999, according to figures from the Central Statistics Office today.

In the first 11 months of 2000, however, there were 221,788 new private cars licensed - an increase of 33.4% on the corresponding period in 1999.

A Volkswagen was the most popular new car to be bought in November, followed by Opel, Ford, Fiat, Nissan and Renault cars.
