The Irish Wind Energy Association says the future of the industry could be determined by a ministerial decision on the pricing level for AER V, a Government-sponsored programme to buy electricity from wind farms.
A price study commissioned by the IWEA says a price from 4.19p per unit, to be index-linked, would be necessary to successfully fund commercial wind farm development.
The IWEA says a low price would lead to a number of wind energy operators going out of business and would stop Ireland meeting its international obligations on renewable energy.
AER V is run through the ESB, which undertakes to buy a fixed amount of power at a premium price over a fixed period.
