62 job losses at Dawn Dairies

62 workers are to lose their jobs at the Dawn Dairies milk products plant in Moate, Co Westmeath.

A company spokesman for Kerry Foods, Dawn's parent company, said the decision followed a review of the company's liquid milk operations in Ireland.

He said 20 employees would be retained, and the company would consolidate its milk business in its three remaining facilities in Galway, Limerick and Killarney.

In August, Kerry sold its Ballinahina Dairy operation in Cork to a local

company due to low profit margins in the region.

SIPTU, which represents over 50 members of staff, said this afternoon that the company's employees had been told production would cease at the end of April.

Dawn Dairies produced milk and fruit juice products at the Moate plant.
