Bausch & Lomb Ireland has announced it is to invest £12.8 million in its Waterford city operations. The company is spending the money to increase manufacturing capacity for one of its fastest growing contact lens products, the Soft Lens 66 Toric.
Employment at the Waterford plant has now reached a record 1,639 people, making Bausch & Lomb the city's biggest employer on a single site.
Employment will grow marginally as a result of the latest investment but will also involve the re-deployment of some employees from manufacturing processes where demand for older lenses is levelling off.
The South-East region received further good news today with the announcment of 225 new jobs for the area by three IDA-supported investments. The jobs will be created in Sun Life Information Services Ireland and Adam GmbH in Waterford city and FileFlow AS in Kilkenny.
