Exports of food and drink rose by 4.4% last year to reach a record of £5.4 billion, according to figures this afternoon from Bord Bia.
However, the BSE crisis has damaged strong progress made by the beef sector.
Bord Bia announced a £2.8 million increase in government aid to create a new market information division and give additional resources to the consumer foods and small business sector.
