New private bus company targets Dublin market

A new private bus company is aiming to establish itself as a significant player in Dublin's public transport market.

The company, Aerdart, has been created by a partnership between Sean and Seamus Crosson of the Crosson Motor Group and UK bus operator Metroline.

The Crosson Group has a turnover of £30m and employs 100 people, while Metroline employs 2,500 people in London and also owns a Scottish long distance coach service.

Aerdart has already received two licences and hopes to begin operating before the summer. The first is for a shuttle service between Howth Junction Dart Station and Dublin Airport, the second for a service connecting Swords, Dublin Airport and Leixlip with the Dart network.

The company is to apply for further licences under a new round recently announced by the Public Enterprise Minister.
