Campbell Bewley Acquires US Coffee Company For $16m

Campbell Bewley Group has paid $16m for California coffee company Java City, its second move into the US market. In 1998, the group bought the Rebecca's chain of coffee shops in Massachusetts.

Java City operates a coffee roasting factory, 37 outlets and 300 licensed cafes throughout the US. It also roasts and distributes its own-brand coffee and other products to food service, airline and retail clients.

Campbell Bewley chief executive Dan Cronin says Java City, which had turnover of $44.3m last year, "is to California what Bewley's is to Ireland".
