Five companies in the Galway region are to receive a total investment of £8.26 million, which will result in the creation of 129 jobs in the county.
The investment, supported by Enterprise Ireland, was announced today by the Minister for Science, Technology and Commerce, Noel Treacy.
C&F Tooling in Cashla, Athenry is to get £4.6 million with an additional 55 jobs. Galway Irish Crystal is expected to create 18 extra jobs with a £2 million investment. Lockwood Veneers in Gort will invest over half a million in an expansion which will create 22 new jobs. Tuam company Celtrak will gain 20 new jobs after an investment of £944,000 and Larkin Engineering Enterprises, which is also based in Tuam, will gain 14 new jobs with an investment of £174,000.
However, it was announced today that 120 jobs are to be lost in Waterford city. Tech Industries, which makes plastic caps for the cosmetic industry, is to close next month.
And news tonight says that another 150 textile jobs in the North are to be axed with the closure of a sewing factory in Derry. Fruit of the Loom, which has already shut a number of plants in Co Donegal, blamed continuing cost pressures and high stock levels of fleece wear.
