RTÉ lyric fm announces Choirs for Christmas 2018

RTÉ lyric fm is delighted to announce the opening date of our annual celebration community, amateur choral music making from all around the island of Ireland.

If you would like to be involved in Ireland's largest choral competition - send in a recording of your choir singing one festive choral work of your own choice by Tuesday 4th December. A selection of the best of the submissions will be chosen for airplay on RTÉ lyric fm each weekday from 17th - 24th December in a special Choirs for Christmas feature presented by Evelyn Grant at 1pm.

BEST OVERALL RUNNERS UP: €200
BEST YOUTH CHOIR: €200
BEST COMMUNITY / CHORAL SOCIETY CHOIR: €200
BEST PRIMARY SCHOOL CHOIR: €200
BEST SECONDARY SCHOOL CHOIR: €200
BEST PERFORMANCE OF A NEW CHORAL WORK*: €200 

*Composed within the last 10 years including all of the RTÉ lyric fm Christmas Carols Commissions. Here are a selection of scores you could consider if you intend to enter the specific category of 'BEST PERFORMANCE OF A NEW CHORAL WORK'.

CONDUCTING PRIZE: Association of Irish Choirs Conducting Scholarship for a conductor in the competitions to attend the AOIC Annual International Choral Conducting Summer School 2019 held in the University of Limerick in August. The award may go to a conductor with a particularly high level of attainment and/or to a conductor who has shown great promise and skill.

The bursary will cover the cost of fees for course tuition only (accommodation can be sought on campus at the University of Limerick if required during the course for those living outside of Limerick). www.aoic.ie
