Many of us are either planning holidays, on holidays, or thinking about planning holidays at the moment, as the summer kicks into full swing and holidaymakers make up for the time grounded in lockdown.

Of course, in that time we've come to appreciate our home country more than ever, and staycations are still just as popular as they were last year.

With that in mind, TripAdvisor has just revealed the winners of its Travellers' Choice "Best of the Best Things to Do" awards.

Michael Collins Centre, Clonakilty

Spanning 11 categories, from Top Experiences and Top Attractions, across Ireland and the world, the awards are full of inspiration for your next trip, if you haven't settled on a destination just yet.

Experiences around Irish cities and in the lush Irish countryside proved to be exceptionally popular. The award for #1 experience in Ireland went to the Dark Dublin Guided Walking Tour, which also ranked as the 15th best experience in Europe.

The Book of Kells and the Old Library Exhibition, Dublin

The Guided Climb of Carrauntoohil in Beaufort, Killarney clocked in at second place in Ireland and 16th in Europe in the Top Experiences category, while the Cliffs of Moher Tour including Wild Atlantic Way and Galway City from Dublin came third in Ireland and 23rd in Europe – proving that local Irish experiences are some of the most sought after in Europe.

Our rich cultural heritage was highlighted also, as the Windmill Lane Recording Studios - Visitor Experience in Dublin placed eighth in the world in the Popular Culture Tours category.
