Dublin's Hard Rock Hotel has been nominated as one of the Best New Hotels in Europe in the prestigious World Travel Awards 2020.

The Temple Bar spot is the only Irish nominee in the category, and rubs shoulders with four other glamorous destinations: the Mandarin Oriental in Lake Como, Nobu Hotel in Barcelona, Savoy Palace in Portugal and the AMARA Hotel in Cyprus.

With the hospitality industry so badly hit worldwide since the outbreak of Covid-19, hotels need all the boosts they can get, but this award has special meaning for the team at the Hard Rock Hotel. As General Manger Sinead Derham said, 2020 has been a particularly challenging year for the new team.

"At the beginning of 2020, we were so excited to open our doors as Ireland's first Hard Rock Hotel and begin to welcome guests from all over our country and all over the world. Less than a month later, we had to close again due to Covid-19 so it hasn't been the best start to launching a new hotel.

"However, when our doors have been open, the feedback from guests has been just fantastic - from the incredible music themed interiors and high spec finish throughout to the extensive art and memorabilia collection, and our Peruvian inspired bar and restaurant Zampas.

"This award nomination is not only a testament to what is a wonderful and unique hotel product but it also recognises the resilient team we have working here who bring the hotel to life every day with their energy, personalities and the highest level of customer care."

Opened with Irish hospitality group Tifco, Dublin's Hard Rock Hotel is a 120-bedroom hotel on Lord Edward Street, opposite City Hall and is – unsurprisingly – celebrated for its impressive collection of music memorabilia, from The Rolling Stones and Hozier, to Kurt Cobain and David Bowie.

Running since 1993, the World Travel Awards was established to "acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all key sectors of the travel, tourism and hospitality industries", according to its website. Winners are chosen by traveler and travel industry figure votes, with winners announced for each continent.

The judges will crown a winner at the Europe Winners' Day online ceremony taking place on November 2, so here's hoping for an Irish win.
