For a story that ends in betrayal, disappointment and bloodshed, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet has certainly inspired a lot of declarations of love. And now, it's the inspiration for one lucky couple's Valentine's Day of dreams.

Nestled in the heart of romantic Verona City is Casa di Giulietta, the spiritual home to Shakespeare's fictional Juliet Capulet, complete with a balcony from which to call out, "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?"

The 13th-century building has long been a tourist destination, with thousands upon thousands visiting the minute courtyard to leave notes - of love, heartache, longing and thanks - to Juliet, the local patron of love.

Over the decades, letters have even been sent to "Juliet", prompting the establishment of Juliet's Club, a volunteer organisation that pen personalised responses to each and every letter received.

Now, Airbnb and Juliet's Club are joining forces to offer one lovestruck couple the chance to spend Valentine's Day together in Juliet's home, being the first couple to do so.

Airbnb has worked with an Italian architect on the property, revamping it into the perfect backdrop to some romance. Every detail oozes enchantment, such as the carved medieval-inspired wooden bed that was used on the set of Italian director Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet.

Dinner will be prepared by two-Michelin-starred chef Giancarlo Perbellini, while the couple will be waited on by a personal butler. In the evening, a tour of Verona will give them the chance to steal their own romantic moments, while back at the apartment they'll curl up by the enormous fireplace to write letters "from Juliet".

As with many things to do with Valentine's Day, however, romance comes at the price of serious competitiveness. To nab the keys to the apartment, you must pen your own letter to Juliet, sharing the story of how you and your Valentine met, wooed and fell in love.

"To stay in Juliet's house, applicants must pen a letter to Juliet in English, sharing their own poignant love story and explaining why they and their partner would be perfect guests", Airbnb says.

Take your cues from Shakespeare and put it in verse, or simply tell a tale of love with hopefully less woe than that of Juliet, and her Romeo.
