Next Friday sees the mystical Ayers Rock – or Uluru to give it its proper – become an even more mystical experience for visitors when an extraordinary field of light art installation opens to the public. Artist Bruce Munro has been installing some 50,000 “stems crowned with frosted glass spheres that will illuminate as night falls, creating an extraordinary display beneath the night sky. Munro was attracted to the idea when camping near the Rock as a young man but has only now returned with a formula he has used around the world.
Visitors can walk through the installation and see how the stems begin to appear to spread like tendrils. It is expected to be a huge success and visitors can enjoy the experience for $35 dollars per adult.
