"I’m absolutely thrilled to receive the award. Especially when I see calibre of the other winners, I know I’m in good company!", Deirdre told RTÉ LifeStyle.
"The event was a dinner followed by the award ceremony in Thomas Prior Hall with about 130 people attending. They were made up of travel journalist and editors, travel industry professionals and employees of the Spanish Tourist Board (including the Ambassador) who sponsored the event.
"There was dinner followed by the prize giving ceremony and I was delighted to hear my name called out."
Mullins will need a new trophy cabinet at this stage: "This was my third time to win an award. I won Travel Extra Travel Journalist of the Year Awards 2012 for the Home Market category and last year I won it for the Long Haul category."
On the night, she tweeted: “Delighted to have won @TravelExtraIre Travel Journalist of the Year Award (Digital Media category) for work@RTE_TEN”.
