Skerries Water Festival taking place this weekend

The annual water festival gets underway on Saturday August 1 at 12pm and runs until Sunday, with visitors flocking to the seaside town to enjoy the adventurous water sports.

If you don't fancy getting getting into the sea, there will also be beach activities including rugby, Gaelic, cricket and tennis, and younger attendees can take part in the kids sand castle competition each day. Families can also sit back and take in some spectacular kite surfing displays along the Skerries coast.

Attendees will also have the chance to take in a flotilla of boats which will be mooring along the bay while savouring a delicious snack from the onsite tented food and craft village. Possibly one of the key highlights of this year’s programme is the RNLI Raft Race which takes place on the Sunday of the festival.

Elaine O’ Sullivan from Fingal Tourism said: "We are inviting families from North Dublin and beyond to embrace the elements and take in what promises to be an action packed weekend full of fun. We may not be able to guarantee the sun, but what we can offer is a weekend full of activities that the whole family will enjoy. A full musical programme will also add to the atmosphere of the outdoor event. The festival is a celebration of Skerries’ greatest natural resources, its coast, islands and of course the seaside town. Be sure not to miss this exciting event in this wonderful amenity right on our doorstep."
