A Dublin cocktail bar has been nominated for the Best Cocktail Menu at the Spirited Awards, for the second year in a row.

Bar 1661 secured a spot on the shortlist of top 10 cocktail menus in the world, specifically for its We Call This Power cocktail menu, a 28-drink celebration of Irish poitín*, Irish drinks, and Irish producers.

Now in its 20th year, the Spirited Awards highlight exceptional creations and creators across the global bar industry, including individuals, establishments, products, media, and leaders who continue to inspire the global cocktail community.

Located on Green St, Bar 1661 opened in 2019 and is owned and operated by Dubliner Dave Mulligan. It takes its name from the year poitín was banned in Ireland, and has used many of its cocktails to not just tell the story of the Irish drinks industry, but to pay homage to local businesses, figures and communities.

The bar shares the list with a number of impressive spots, including ARGO at the Four Seasons in Hong Kong, Danico in Paris and Sip & Guzzle in New York City.

Posting about the nomination on Instagram, the Bar 1661 team wrote:

"To be named among this calibre of bars, from Paris to Bangkok to Barcelona to New York, is something we don't take lightly. The menu is the work of a team that pours everything into every pour. Thank you to the Spirited Awards, and to everyone who’s pulled up a seat at BAR 1661."

The menu will be served until the autumn, when a new menu will be introduced.

The winners will be announced on 23 July at The Fillmore, New Orleans, during the 24th annual Tales of the Cocktail conference.
