Dublin has been chosen as the host city for the 2026 Michelin Guide ceremony for the UK and Ireland, marking the first time the event has been held in Ireland.

The prestigious ceremony will see the Michelin Stars for 2026 presented to restaurants from across the UK and Ireland, and will take place in Dublin's Convention Centre on 9 February.

On the big night, the Guide will unveil stars, Bibs Gourmands, Green Stars for sustainability and special awards for "the most talented restaurant teams and chefs from Great Britain and Ireland". The event will also be livestreamed globally.

The choice of location has also stoked speculation that Ireland could be in line for even more accolades from the renowned institution.

Ireland currently has five 2-star restaurants: Chapter One, Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud and Liath, all in Dublin, and Dede in Baltimore and Terre in Castlemartyr Resort, both in Co Cork. Could a 3-star promotion be on the cards?

Elsewhere, the country's 1-star restaurants could be in line for a boost, too.

Ireland's 19 1-star restaurants are: Ballyfin Demesne in Co Laois, The Morrison Room in Carton House Co Kildare, LIGИUM and Aniar in Galway, Lady Helen at Mount Juliet Estate and Champagne in Co Kilkenny, D'Olier St, Glovers Alley, Variety Jones and Bastible in Co Dublin, Bastion and Chestnut in Co Cork, The Oak Room in Co Limerick, Homestead Cottage, Doolin and Wild Honey Inn in Co Clare, House in Co Waterford, The Bishops's Buttery in Co Tipperary and Ox and The Muddlers Club in Belfast.

Ireland has been the recipient of evermore praise and recognition from the Michelin Guide, with four new restaurants added to the Michelin Guide - its list of recommended spots that are not awarded stars or bibs - bringing the number of Irish restaurants on the list up to 106.

As for Bib Gourmands, the Guide's prize for restaurants offering great quality and great value cooking, last year saw five Irish restaurants awarded the distinction: Solas in Dingle, Co Kerry, Ichigo Ichie Bistro & Natural Wine in Co Cork, and La Gordita, Amy Austin and Lottie's in Co Dublin.

A sixth in Belfast - Home - had its Bib reinstated.
