How to make slow cooker 'dump bag' recipes

TV chef and food writer Aisling Larkin joins RTÉ Radio 1 to share handy dinner recipes. Listen back above.

If you're preparing yourself for the chaos of getting the kids back to school, now may be the perfect time to start prepping a week's worth of dinners. 'Dump bags' are a handy way to do just that.

By freezing pre-portioned ingredients altogether in a good-quality zip-lock bag, you can simply dump the contents into your slow cooker or air fryer and have dinner sorted.

Delicious, efficient, and easy.

Recipes like chicken fajitas, ragu bolognese, and Moroccan tagine work great in the slow cooker because the long-sustained heat brings out all the delicious flavours, meaning you don't have to spend time browning meat or caramalising veg.

Recipes that include onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, dried oregano, and smoked paprika will also work well.

You can listen back to Aisling's interview for more tips, and find her slow cooker chicken fajitas recipe below.

Slow cooker chicken fajitas

To make slow cooker chicken fajitas, Aisling recommends placing raw chicken thighs, tomato puree, a tin of tomatoes, chopped peppers, and some kidney beans into a Ziploc bag and label it with the date. Pop it in the freezer and that's the job done.

To prepare the meal, simply take the bag out of the freezer the night before you want to use it and allow it to defrost in the fridge overnight. The following morning, dump the contents into the slow cooker and allow it to cook for the day.

Dinner sorted.
