Five new Irish restaurants have been awarded a Bib Gourmand distinction by Michelin, while a sixth restaurant in Belfast had its award reinstated.

Named after Bibendum – the official name of the Michelin Man – this distinction highlights restaurants offering great quality, great value cooking.

20 restaurants across the UK and Ireland were awarded the distinction as part of the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2024.

The announcement comes ahead of this year's Michelin Guide Ceremony for Great Britain & Ireland – which will take place on Monday, February 5 at The Midland Hotel in Manchester.

Beginning with Ichigo Ichie Bistro & Natural Wine in Cork, the judges praised the new incarnation of the original Ichigo Ichie for its "more relaxed and accessibly priced restaurant that comes with the bustle of contented diners".

On the west coast, the team behind Solas in Dingle were awarded for their use of Irish produce in dishes that have "been given a fresh spin without losing their identity".

Dublin has had a particularly good year, with three new Bib Gourmands including La Gordita, with its "authentic cooking"; Amy Austin, where internationally influenced dishes are accompanied by "free-flowing wine on tap"; Lottie’s in Rathmines, a buzzing neighbourhood brasserie serving "unfussy dishes packed with flavour".

In Northern Ireland, Home in Belfast has regained its Bib Gourmand thanks to a new chef and an extensive menu that includes "a host of delicious dishes at an attractive price, accompanied by friendly service and a welcoming feel".
