James Kavanagh and Carl Mullan on finding Ireland's best takeaway

With so many of us turning to food for comfort during those long lockdown evenings, and with so many restaurants and chefs pivoting to succeed during the restrictions, the country's takeaway scene has come out fighting in 2022.

Traditionally a space for fish and chips (with lashings of salt and vinegar), Irish customers can now enjoy delicacies from every corner of the globe from the comfort of their couch.

In RTÉ's brand new competition, Takeaway Titans, hosts James Kavanagh and Carl Mullan aim to seeks out the best takeaway talent that the country has to offer.

Putting these takeaway chefs to the test will be Irish chef and renowned critic Dylan McGrath and takeaway expert and winner of Britain's Best Home Cook Suzie Lee Arbuthnot. They will be judging contestants based on their creativity and skill.

Categories will include: Chippers, Asian, Indian, Pizza and Burger and Chicken joints, come to the Takeaway Titans Kitchen to cook up a storm for our discerning judges.

Even better? Top Irish celebrities join the judges to taste some of the food – guests include Deirdre O'Kane, Hugh Wallace, Norma Sheehan, Jake Carter and Rory O’Connor aka Rory’s Stories.

The five final teams of this six-part series will return to the Takeaway Titans kitchen and must choose one dish from there menu and cook not just for Dylan and Suzie, but for the toughest judges of them all – the public.

We caught up with hosting duo Carl Mullan and James Kavanagh at the RTÉ New Season Launch to find out how they landed TV's most delicious jobs and the gold-dusted dishes that impressed them. Watch it back above.
