Get the reservations booked - Ireland's best restaurant has just been named, and it's as stunning as you expect.

Loam, the Michelin-starred restaurant and wine bar owned and run by Head Chef Enda McEvoy, was given the top honour at the All-Ireland Best Restaurant Awards in the Clayton Hotel in Dublin last night.

The restaurant - the name of which translates as "rich, fertile soil" - has won praise for its focus on seasonal, local produce, with adventurous, modern recipes that hark back to the traditions of the West of Ireland.

Graham Neville of Dax Restaurant was named as the Best Chef in Ireland and is renowned for his elegant French fare in the Dublin spot.

Everett's, an impressive modern restaurant nestled in the remains the 15th century John Collyn House in Waterford, took home the gong for Best Newcomer, while The Pub of the Year award went to Doheny and Nesbitt in Dublin.

Nominations are sent in by the public, with over 90,000 received in January - a record amount in the awards' 11-year history, according to the Restaurants Association of Ireland - and over 2,000 restaurateurs attended regional awards in Kildare, Monaghan, Limerick and Sligo.

Commenting on the winners at the ceremony last night, chief executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland Adrian Cummins said: "Ireland may be a small country, but it boasts everything from fine dining to high-quality gastropubs, from the comfort of traditional Irish food to exploring the world through exotic world cuisine, the Irish restaurant industry has much to offer.

"We have an appreciation for what we eat and where our food comes from, as well as the dedication of those working in the food industry."
