In the brand new series of What Are You Eating?, Philip Boucher-Hayes investigates how, and what, we eat in 21st century Ireland. Protein bars are the latest diet craze to hit the country, but are they actually good for us?

Philip told RTÉ LifeStyle that there is a common perception that protein bars are the "last safe place to go" but actually, they're almost as bad as a chocolate bar.

"There is nearly as much, not as much, but nearly as much carbohydrate as you would find in a chocolate bar anyway and they're actually not really meant for the vast majority of us."

So who are these bars for? Olympic boxing team nutritionist Dr Sharon Madigan explained...
