Award-winning TV chef Catherine Fulvio begins her brand new show Tastes Like Home on RTÉ One tonight. We caught up with the chef to talk about the show, her new cookbook and her upbringing.

A Taste of Home – your new book, tell us all about it!
It’s everything that I love about food and offers really good wholesome recipes with a twist sometimes modern sometimes Italian.

I guess you could say the book is my food story from Ballyknocken House & Cookery School, here in Wicklow, where three generations of my family have lived and farmed for over 100 years.

It is a selection of my favourite recipes and a reflection on my upbringing here at Ballyknocken and all the skills that I honed along the way in the Cookery School, from my mother and grandmother. It even features tips on how to grow your own micro herb garden, make yoghurt, and churn butter.

A Taste of Home

Who would love it in their Christmas stocking and why?
I’d like to think there is something for everyone in the book. It’s about doable recipes that will take you through the year and packed full of flavour. I’d say it would be a real hit with anyone living abroad looking to get that taste of home.

Catherine Fulvio's Tastes Like Home

You have a wonderful down to earth attitude – what do you attribute that to, is it growing up on a farm? Your mother and her cooking played a special role?

I am your typical Irish person, I grew up in a hardworking family where my father worked the farm and my mother ran the bed and breakfast so there was no time for heirs and graces!

That said, I had fabulous childhood running free on a farm and helping my mum cook in the kitchen – what more could you ask for?

Tune into Catherine's brand new show starts tonight on RTÉ One at 7:30pm.
