Made from a blend of rich pot still and a small batch grain whiskey, this new addition to their collection is uniquely matured in hand-crafted flamed charred black barrels for a rich smooth taste. These charred black barrels are iconic and form an integral part of the distilling process and have been finessed over the past two centuries. Building on the craft and heritage of Jameson Select Reserve Black Barrel, each barrel has been skilfully charred to specification by the Jameson Master Cooper, Ger Buckley, using the same traditions and tools passed down through generations of Jameson Coopers.
Jameson Master Blender, Billy Leighton, oversees each component of the whiskey creation and carefully hand picks the casks based on the flavours they contribute. The trademark Jameson notes of toasted wood and spice develop while the rich pot still matures in the dark, aromatic warehouses of the distillery. The sweet grain whiskey - not found in any other Jameson Whiskey - is triple distilled in small batch quantities on just one occasion each year. While traditional Jameson ages for five to seven years, Black Barrel gets an average of 12 or so years in the cask. So how does it taste you ask? Smooth and mellow like traditional Jameson, but with a richer, deeper flavour and longer finish. Here’s a clearer breakdown of the highlights of its personality.
Tasting characteristics:
Nose: Rich and full, developing into the succulent sweetness of exotic fruits like nectarines, apricots and papayas.
Taste: A burst of flavours combines to produce a creamy, luscious taste experience. The special fruity sweetness from the grain remains consistent, while the waves of vanilla, toasted wood and spices roll through from the pot still whiskey and flame charred barrels.
Finish: An incredibly long finish with fruit and wood spices lingering in perfect proportion, delivering an extremely rich and smooth taste experience.
