Famously held on the first Monday in May each year, the Met Gala is a star-studded fundraiser that provides the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City with its main source of funding for exhibitions and events each year.

The dazzling night sees designers buy tables at the gala, with each one inviting celebrities or influencers to represent them and wear their creations on the glamorously decorated Met steps.

Each guest is personally approved by former Vogue editor Anna Wintour, making an invite one of the most hotly coveted tickets in the fashion world.

The Host Committee was co-chaired by Anthony Vaccarello and Zoë Kravitz co-chairing it, with additional members including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Alex Consani, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, LISA, Chloe Malle, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Lauren Wasser, Anna Weyant, A'ja Wilson, and Yseult.

The dress code for this year's gala was Fashion is Art, inviting guests to express their own relationship to fashion as an embodied art form.

The theme reflected the ethos of the current exhibition at the museum, Costume Art, which explores the "centrality of the dressed body" through depictions and interpretations of the human form.
