Chappell Roan, Anna Wintour, and actress Sophie Thatcher were spotted sitting front row at the latest McQueen show during Paris Fashion Week.
Dubliner Sean McGirr, creative director of McQeen, delivered a beautiful Womenswear Fall/Winter 2026-2027 show at Galerie de Mineralogie of Jardin des Plantes.
McGirr, 36, was appointed to his Alexander McQueen role in October 2023 and debuted his first collection at the autumn/winter 2024 Paris Fashion Week.
He was quick to impress the fashion world, and was added to the Business of Fashion's Class of 2024, with the publication describing his debut collection for McQueen as a showcase of his "ambition to honour McQueen's legacy while exploring new creative directions".
According to Vogue, McGirr has continued to follow in the footsteps of Lee Alexander McQueen by taking inspiration from cinema, with his latest work inspired by Todd Haynes' 1995 film Safe.
Starring Julianne Moore, the movie is an American psychological drama that sees a suburban housewife become sick with an environmental illness.
"I wanted to address the psychological conflict that I think is happening right now in the sense that we’re always on, always curating. There’s this idea of paranoia and perfection," said McGirr.
Writing about the ready-to-wear pieces, the Howth native said that the collection was a return to classics, embracing 1960s silhouettes and impeccable tailoring.
"The boundary between interior confinement and expansive nature blurs, liberating the domestic. Floral wallpaper prints and lace are brought outside.
"Bed jackets become eveningwear, reimagined as rose-quilted bombers rendered in icy, Hitchcockian hues. Wild hand-embroidered flowers emerge from 1960s silhouettes, pearlescent and sharpened to a fine point."
In terms of textiles, McGirr says he embraced a mix of leather, lace, featherlight organza, and intricate feather embroidery.
"Classic fabrics are subverted with textural treatments and a diverting lustre: changeant and pearlescent leather trench coats, sliced silk mikado suiting, and crushed floral jacquards."
