Irish stars Maura Higgins and Laura Whitmore shone on the red carpet in New York City last night, as they attended the US Glamour Women of the Year Awards ceremony.
Held at The Plaza Hotel in New York City, the annual event celebrates women who have led the charge in the past 12 months, be it in activism, music, acting or sports. This year's honorees included Demi Moore, Rachel Griffin Accurso or 'Ms. Rachel' and Tyla.
The UK ceremony took place last week and featured Irish stars Aimee Connolly, Niamh McCormack and Siobhán Donaghy of the Sugababes.
But at last night's event, the glamour went up just a notch, while also being used as a way of advocating for important issues.
Ms. Rachel stepped out in an especially meaningful design: an upcycled black and white gown emblazoned with drawings by Gazan children. Glamour reports that Accurso got in touch with children in Gaza and asked them to send her artworks to be incorporated in her outfit for the night.
She carried a photo of each of the children on the red carpet, and mentioned them by name in her speech, saying: "I'm so proud of you, I'm so honoured to wear your artwork."
Irish stars also made bold statements on the red carpet, with Maura Higgins making an entrance in a form-fitting black gown with a satin skirt, a low neckline and sheer detailing on the bodice.
Laura Whitmore was the lady in red as she stepped out in a stunning red gown by Stella McCartney, featuring structure shoulders and a daring open back. She paired it with shoes by Christian Louboutin and a tousled up-do.
Of course, overseeing the festivities was fellow Irishwoman and Global Editorial Director and Editor-in-Chief of Glamour, Samantha Barry.
The Cork woman looked breathtaking on the big night, wearing a black strapless gown, featuring a scalloped neckline and a daringly high slit in the skirt. She finished her look with a knockout statement necklace.
