The Venice Film Festival, the oldest such festival in the world, kicked off last night with a dazzling red carpet, with stars like Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton and more still to come.

Taking place from 27 August to 6 September, the 82nd edition of the festival will feature a wide range of films by directors Luca Guadagnino, Guillermo del Toro and more.

The annual event is a highlight for the entertainment industry, and also for fashion fans, as a bevvy of stylish celebs strut down the red carpet in ever more eye-catching designs.

Emma Stone, Ayo Edebiri, Jacob Elordi, Julia Roberts and Adam Sandler are just some of the famous faces expected at the event, but some A-listers have already set the bar high with their outfits.

Cate Blanchett arrived wearing a dazzling gown by Armani Privé that she previously wore to the 2022 SAG Awards, featuring a mermaid train, a deep V-neckline and chunky embellishments.

In recent years, stars have taken up dressing 'on message' when promoting a project, from Margot Robbie's storied fashion streak while promoting Barbie, to Zendaya's tennis-themed outfits while on the Challengers PR trail.

However, Julia Roberts took on-brand dressing to a new level by stepping out in a custom black and white cardigan covered with prints of director Luca Guadagnino's face, an homage to their latest project together, After the Hunt.
