With an evocative theme, The Garden of Time, the Met Gala 2024 has provided the A-list guest list ample opportunity to go all out, and Irish design certainly reigned supreme on the iconic steps of the museum.

Coordinated with the Costume Institute's exhibition Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, the gala theme is inspired by the 250 items that have been pulled from the Institute's permanent collection for this year's exhibit, including some that have been rarely seen in public before.

The gala has become one of the most anticipated events on the fashion calendar, and was established in 1948 as a means to fundraise for the Institute.

As well as the many Irish stars that attended the gala, a number of Irish designs were put front and centre on the night, with some celebrity guests spotlighting our homegrown talent.

Lana Del Rey climbed the Met Gala steps wearing a breathtaking design by Alexander McQueen, headed up by Dublin-born designer Seán McGirr.

Speaking to Vogue, McGirr said that he wanted to evoke Mother Nature herself with a "sinister" edge, which came through in the gothic design.

The pale brown dress featured a corset bodice and was overlayed with branch-inspired detailing, with one single red rose on Lana's hand. The vision was completed by an ethereal headpiece, topped off with a matching veil.

Sarah Jessica Parker is a seasoned Met Gala veteran at this point, and returned to a favourite Irish designer of hers for her ensemble tonight. She chose a Philip Treacy headpiece to pair with her beige gown, created by London-Irish designer Richard Quinn.

The highly structural gown featured what Parker called a "trellis" of glittering embellishments, while the hat was crafted from a shimmering material in a wavy design.

Zendaya also wore a Philip Treacy design, emerging from a quick costume change at the end of the red carpet to reveal a second look, following her jaw-dropping Maison Margiela look.

She wore a black archival Givenchy gown, paired with a Philip Treacy hat from his S/S 2007 collection that resembled a bouquet of flowers.

Bad Sisters star Eve Hewson looked bewitching in a pale pink chiffon gown by Irish designer Simone Rocha, which featured a corsetted bodice, puff sleeves, long gloves and a small train, all hand embellished with crystal daisy detailing.

She amped up the feminine look by wearing two white bows in her hair, and contrasted the delicate look with a statement red lip.

With Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson stepping in as honorary chair for the gala this year, it's no surprise that many guests stepped out in Loewe designs.

Among them was Vogue editor-in-chief and Global Chief Content Officer of Condé Nast Anna Wintour, who wore a striking black long coat with a red and yellow floral motif inspired by a cape designed by Charles Frederick Worth, largely considered to be the first couturier.

Inspired by a circa-1944 evening cape by 20th century designer Charles James, and tailoring from the LOEWE Fall/Winter 2024 women's collection, Wintour's tuxedo in wool with a silk satin shawl collar is decorated with floral motifs using hand-dyed feathers, tonal beading, and pearl embroidery.

Ariana Grande looked ethereal in a Loewe design, too, with her gown featuring a bodice over-layed with real mother of pearl before flowing into a delicate skirt.

Irish man Jamie Dornan, who recently appeared in a Loewe campaign, wore a playful suit from Anderson for the stylish occasion.

With Anderson in charge of the costume design for Challengers. Luca Guadagnino's latest film starring Zendaya, Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist, it seems a natural choice that the two leading men and the director would step out for the Met Gala wearing Loewe.

O'Connor wore a striking black suit that trailed behind him, and paired it with multicoloured pastel shoes, while Faist wore a black suit jacket accented with a radish-inspired brooch, cream trousers and chunky black shoes.

Saltburn star Alison Oliver, who recently appeared in a Loewe campaign, wore a plunging dress designed by Anderson.

Stylist Aimée Croysdill took to Instagram to share details of the look, stating that the lining of the look is "made from 16th century garments, none of which have been cut or harmed in the process".

Canadian actress Taylor Russell McKenzie, American singer Omar Apollo, Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey, and One Day actress Ambika Mod were all spotted in the Derry man's designs.
