As well as making history at the 2024 Academy Awards, becoming the first Irish-born star to win Best Actor, Cillian Murphy has made headlines around the world thanks to his dapper red carpet style.

Working with image consultant Rose Forde, the Cork native wore an Atelier Versace suit comprised of a wool tweed single-breasted jacket with contrast silk peaked lapels, a silk formal shirt with pleated front panel and concealed buttons, and a pair of mohair wool tailored pants with a large silk waistband.

"I think it's a very well-thought-out outfit," noted Irish tailor Seán Treacy. "He looks super comfortable. It's a nice, clean look that's worthy of an Oscar winner."

Although the shiny gold statue may have distracted from Murphy's other accessories on the night, his timeless ensemble was complemented by eye-catching details such as a hand-tied bow tie, a satin cummerbund, and a dazzling brooch.

According to Bertrand Mak, founder and chief creative of luxury house Sauvereign, the brooch came about thanks to "metaphorical blood, toil, tears, and sweat, and several sleepless nights."

He told the Gentleman's Journal: "I had to move mountains to ensure it was made in a week from scratch which was very intense."

Immortalising the exciting occasion, the bespoke HS14 Gem Brooch was designed by Bertrand himself, and is described as a "unique piece" made in 18k yellow gold.

Handcrafted in Val-de-Travers, Switzerland, the design is said to pay homage to J. Robert Oppenheimer - a theoretical physicist best known as "the father of the atomic bomb" - whom Murphy plays in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer.

According to the Gentleman's Journal, the piece features eight concentric trapeziums to mimic the shape of interior components in Oppenheimer's invention.

"It was never intended for the Oscars," Mak told the publication. "[Rose Forde] asked if I would work on a design and I could not resist, even if Murphy were to end up wearing it on his dressing gown."
